Paul Hayes is a postdoc in TU Dublin whose research centres on the ethics of technology, with a special interest in the ethics of AI. Paul also supports the functioning and development of the European University of Technology’s think tank, called the EUt+ Ideas Institute, which is an interdisciplinary space that fosters multi-stakeholder dialogue around themes inspired by the EUt’s collective research and values. Paul also collaborates with the SFI’s ADAPT Research Centre.
Paul has been working on questions of the ethics of technology for nearly 10 years, beginning his research with a PhD in Trinity College Dublin in 2014 on the topic of the ethical and human rights issues involved in extracting data from social media for situational awareness in disaster response.
Subsequent to that, Paul has undertaken research as a postdoc in TU Delft in Netherlands, where his research focused on moral values and algorithms in justice and security, with a particular focus on transparency. After this, Paul spent some time carrying out professional research and ethics support in Trilateral research, working in the area of Industry 4.0. before coming to TU Dublin in 2022.
