Hugh McCabe is a lecturer and researcher at the School of Media at TU Dublin. His research interests lie broadly within the field of digital culture and include media archaeology, philosophy of technology and new media, with a particular interest in the past, present and future of the digital/algorithmic image. He received an M.A. in contemporary art theory from the National College of Design (NCAD) and a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from University College Dublin (UCD). He is a transdisciplinary researcher, having conducted published and presented research in diverse areas such as digital culture, computer graphics, digital games, pedagogy and artificial intelligence. He is currently completing a PhD on the history of the algorithmic image at NCAD and is a researcher on the Aesthico project. Hugh is also a visual artist working primarily with lens based media and digitally generated imagery.
